About AATMJ

The Asian Academy for Temporomandibular Joint (AATMJ) was established on September 18th, 2009, at the Seoul Hyatt Hotel in Korea, with the participation of representatives from China, Japan, and Korea. Prior to its establishment, on July 26th, 2008, the Japanese Society for TMJ and the Korean Association for TMJ Corporation had established a sisterhood relationship in Osaka, Japan.
On September 27th, 2008, at Seoul Olympic Park Hotel, the Chinese Society of Temporomandibular Disorders and Occlusion and the Korean Association for TMJ Corporation established a sisterhood relationship.
The Asian Academy for Temporomandibular Joint (AATMJ), with the participation of President Xu-chen Ma from China, President Kenji Kakudo from Japan, and President Hoon Chung from Korea, agreed to promote the research of temporomandibular joint and dental health by sharing information and resources across the three countries.
The following are the detailed minutes of the AATMJ agreement:

  • Academic seminars will be held every two years, rotating among Korea, China, and Japan. The second and third seminars will be held in Japan and China, respectively.

  • The Organizing Committee will recommend two members from each country (Korea, China, and Japan).

  • AATMJ will develop projects that can potentially draw the participation of other countries or areas in Asia.

  • Chung Hoon from Korea will serve as the temporary Executive Director.

We hope that many Asian countries will join the Asian Academy for Temporomandibular Joint (AATMJ) and contribute to the development of temporomandibular joint studies in each country, while fostering friendly relationships among people in Asia. We look forward to the participation of many Asian countries in the Academy.
